Dandelion Root
Coarsely Ground when you order

Convenient for preparing herbal teas, decoctions, tinctures & roasted dandelion beverages.
Dandelion root has traditionally been valued as a bitter digestive herb & for supporting healthy digestion, appetite & normal urinary function. Its naturally occurring bitter compounds & other plant constituents have made dandelion root a longstanding favorite in traditional herbal preparations. The coarse cut gives you the advantages of increased surface area compared with large root pieces while still being easy to strain & handle without the mess of a fine powder.
Ways to Use
•Dandelion Root Decoction: Because dandelion is a root, simmering is a good way to prepare it. 1–2 teaspoons coarsely ground root, 8–12 oz water. Add root to cold water. Bring to a gentle simmer. Cover & simmer 15–20 minutes. Strain & enjoy. For a stronger traditional preparation, use 1 tablespoon per 12–16 oz water.
*The flavor is naturally earthy, woody & pleasantly bitter. Add ginger, cinnamon, orange peel, peppermint or a little honey if desired*
•Dandelion Root Tincture: Because this root is already coarsely ground, there is no need to crush it further. For a traditional 1:5 tincture: 2 oz dried dandelion root 10 fl oz of approximately 45–50% alcohol, 80- 100 proof. Place the 2 oz root in a clean glass jar. Pour in approximately 10 fl oz alcohol, making sure the herb is completely submerged. Cap tightly & shake. Store in a cool, dark place for 6–8 weeks, shaking regularly. Strain thoroughly & press the herb well. Bottle in an amber glass dropper bottle.
•Roast It for a Rich Herbal Beverage. Coarsely ground dandelion root can also be roasted for a deep, nutty, coffee-like herbal drink. Spread the dry root in a thin layer on a baking sheet. Roast at 325°F for about 20–30 minutes. Stir every 8–10 minutes so it roasts evenly. Remove when the pieces are deep golden to brown &6 fragrant. Avoid burning.
Cool completely before storing. Simmer 1–2 teaspoons roasted root per 8–12 oz water for 10–15 minutes, then strain.
*You can blend roasted dandelion root with cinnamon, chicory, ginger or cacao husk for a richer beverage*
